The Skool of guitar excellence

RockSkool

As you can see, the strings are numbered and named beginning from the thickest string, known as the 6th string or E string to the thinnest string, known as the 1st string or E string.

Also note how the frets are numbered beginning at the headstock, ascending as you move up the fretboard towards the bridge.

Learn these numbers and names off by heart as we will refer to these later on when forming chords and learning how to read tabs (guitar tablature is a standard music notation for guitar)

For example, you should learn how to find the 3rd string at the 2nd fret is, or the A string at the 3rd fret, and so on.

Don’t worry too much, with time and practise you will become totally familiar with this process….trust me!

RockSkool: 3:Names & Numbers

The final piece of the jigsaw is to learn which finger to put where!

To do this we number each finger of your left hand, or fretting hand as it is also known, as shown.

I know this can seem a bit confusing at first…..but persevere, be patient, and it will come quite easily in time.
