The Skool of guitar excellence
No school would be complete without some homework!!
As we said before it is important to know the notes on the fret board for the 6th and 5th strings (E and A strings)
This is not too difficult and we need only learn some at the moment, although it would be better to learn them all if possible.
For now then we memorise the notes at the 3rd, 5th and 7th fret markers on the E string (6th string) and the same on the A string (5th string)
Remember, any notes in between are known as either sharps or flats.
Now lets do the same on the A string (5th string)
When we come to make our bar chord, this position will determine the root note of the chord we are playing.
Now lets do the same on the A string (5th string)
Try to remember it like this G A B on the E string………………...C D E on the A string
See, it’s as easy as your ABC’s …...G then A B C D E !
With this knowledge you can easily find other notes in the scale and you don’t have to count up from the open string every time. Remember these “milestones”.
When we come to make our bar chord, this position will determine the root note of the chord we are playing.
