The Skool of guitar excellence
Part 4: A nice simple power chord bit now for the chorus ....a welcome break to give ourselves a break from the other more technical stuff!!
Watch out for that one finger move on the D power chord again though.
Part 5: OK, back to work! How do we approach this???
Why just the same as we always do! Don't be afraid but be realistic and understand that to play like this takes time and practice with a huge dollop of grim determination......do not give up!!
Get used to the position shifts at a very slow speed to begin and.....well you know the rest, speed comes along all by itself!! And it does!
Part 6: Classic crescendo tension building riff to finish with. (somewhat easier too you'll be glad to hear!!)
They key is to watch the open 5th string pedal notes that give the riff that authentic sound, and the palm muting that gives that chunky metal sound. Palm muting is not easy to explain and is something that comes through trial and error til you find the sweet spot where the heel of your picking hand gently dampens the strings and prevents the strings ringing on too much.
As usual, get the position shifts first and go slow concentrating on good technique.
