The Skool of guitar excellence
Part 4: OK...the riff develops again....notice the difference in rhythm now, not all the notes are equal as before so listen carefully.
The first bar repeats as before (3 times) before the palm muted power chord finish.
Part 5: If you have been a good student and practised the very first part properly then this part will be sooooo easy! The key changes but the pattern is basically the same...so remember the alternate picking and go for accuracy before speed at all costs!! Don't rush it.
As a tip, if you want to know what practice really is, play this or the first part over and over for just one minute.....time yourself, you'll be amazed at how many times that you can play it!
Part 6: This bit, that Kirk plays, finishes off the previous part and kinda resolves the song back to the main hook or theme.
It is a bit tricky but worthwhile as another exercise in alternate picking and developing basic lead guitar playing skills.
That's it pretty much and when you can play these pieces you should be able to "stitch" the lot together and play along with the attached file or better still...stick on the Metallica CD and play with the guys. Either way, this is a great song to play to impress your mates when you lift the guitar to jam!
Enjoy and keep the requests coming....yours might be next!
