The Skool of guitar excellence
Due to popular demand here is the Guns 'n' Roses solo, Sweet Child O' Mine.
I have broken it down into very small phrases which I believe is the secret to learning all solos, no matter how long or complicated.
Let me repeat again, breakdown into small sections, one or two bars at a time.
Learn these small fragments until you are able to stitch them together one or two at a time and eventually be able to play a complete solo.
Another top tip I find useful is to learn the solo "mechanically". In other words, learn where all the notes are, all the moves on the fret board so at a very basic level you know the progression of notes and their positions on the fret board, thus allowing you to play from memory. With this as a basis, you can now add the musical interpretation and feeling that make a solo what it is. From here you will develop the solo to sound as much like the original as you can, or you will add your own artistic impressions.
As usual there is also a video clip button which will show how to play each individual phrase slowly, remember to be patient don’t expect to play at speed anytime soon! Go slowly and be accurate….speed will then come along naturally...trust me!
Take your time and learn each small piece, don’t rush it, allow some weeks and be determined in your practice.
Don't forget the tabs are interactive, so when you click on them you here the audio clip too
When you are ready try the “PLAY ALONG” button, here you can play along, up to speed with a rhythm guitar included to keep you company!
Finally….when your good enough….hit the “SOLO” button, to play along with the band on our own...click on the “TAB” button for the complete tab for the piece and get used to following the notation.
Do email me with your requests and comments, if there is enough feedback I will finish off this solo!!!
